The Kansas Medical Center hosted a contest for high school photographers in the state of Kansas and four Missouri counties: Jackson, Platte, Cass, and Clay. Junior Victoria Reynolds entered the photography competition

“I first heard about the project from Mrs. Wheeler, she encouraged all of her students to enter especially because it was free, I didn’t know what to expect but I entered because I thought it could be interesting,” Reynolds said.

Not knowing what the outcome would be, Reynolds entered the contest, and ended up taking third place out of the state of photographers.

“I found out that I won through email sent to all participants. The winners photos were attached, and all mine were there as third place. I was shocked and amazed, I was really not expecting to win any awards, the first thing I did was tell 4 classmates and Mrs. Wheeler,” Reynolds said.

The photographs that were sent in were judged by a panel of judges to select a winner, photographers would undergo a long process of judging.

“The email sent was very long awaited, the judging process took about five months. So when I got the email I was excited to see the outcome,” Reynolds said.

With this being the first contest Reynolds has entered, she has set the bar high for herself in the future. Her photography was displayed at Wolfe’s Camera Shop during the Friday ‘Art Walk’.

“I would love to do more with photography and contests in the future. It’s a hobby of mine that I really enjoy,” Reynolds said.
